Match Build Up: Week 2

Next on tap is another big test for the men in green. The Saints go up against Gold Coast FC. The owner over there has made a lot of noise in the offseason and will be another true test of how our side is able to compete. "Gold Coast has weapons, so figuring out where the scores will come from will not be easy. However, first on the radar has to be Omar Bravo. The guy is a stud. Hopefully he is contained this week." said the Saints manager.

Promising Start

GAME 1
SAINTS 3 BLUES 2-
There was a lot to be hopeful for as the Saints finished the first match of the season. Charlie Davies looked good and brought home a victory against the defending champs. Juninho has goals in each game this week to average 1 point. Donovan looked fresh and came close several times. It was a good week. "The club is delighted to get a full 3 points and defeat an original rival. Also this win is special because its the 20th win all time for Gateway United" said the Saints owner.

Match Build Up: Week 1

Its time to test the new boys out. A strong showing to begin the season would be nice. "The strategy for this match will be to get out there early and put up some quick points. Put the pressure on the Blues. We have 2 starters who will be out there on Tuesday." said the Saints manager.

Battle United: Manchester vs Gateway 4/16

FRIENDLY - The first Saints bonus game of 2011 and the first since Gateway United defeated Puebla FC 4-0 on July 22nd, will be against the current table front runners Manchester United on April 16th. "With a break in the league schedule in week 5, this will be the perfect opportunity to further showcase how passionate Gateway United is about football. The Saints has never lost a friendly against international or BSL opponents. Man-U is the first Euro club the men in green will have ever played" said the Saints manager.

Experience Hopefully Builds A Champion

Less cocky than before.
More eager for a championship than ever.
Three new players were drafted by Gateway United that hopefully will add the proper amount of depth the club was sorely lacking in 10'. Brad Evans, Scott Sealy and Alan Gordon are not going to light it up game in and game out and they don't have to. Their assignments are to contribute without any major gaps. "This organization knows the deal on how things work in the BSL having been on top (2009) and the bottom (2010). The Saints are not aiming for a decent season. The Saints are aiming for a championship season. To do that you need to stay healthy, and have the a roster that can score 1 through 8, maybe even 1 through 10." said the Saints owner. Of course this will not happen week in and week out. It doesn't need to. Just as long as someone takes up the slack for the others the wins will come. That's the mindset and hopefully these are the guys who can do it. Lastly, experience has shown that adjustments will need to be made. The draft can only do so much. Free agency and the transfer window is already on this clubs radar.

Overall Outlook Is Positive

PRESS RELEASE
=
Behind the scenes in the Gateway United camp, the brain trust has to be pleased with the overall selection process the club has had so far. There has been some picks stolen and some highs and lows, but overall results are good. All the signing have the potential to put points on the scoreboard and getting Ryan Johnson was great. He could be the difference maker in some matches.

Fernandez Ready For Spotlight

PRESS RELEASE - Even though he had only 2 goals in 12 appearances in 2010, Gateway United has selected Alvaro Fernandez in the 2nd round of the 2011 BSL draft. "Those stats are misleading. Fernandez was a summer transfer and was coming in off the bench for several matches as he got into match fit condition. When he did play he was brilliant." said the Saints owner. The hope is he will produce a lot in 2011.
