No Playoffs - How about Majors Cup?

GAME 19
STAGS 3 SAINTS 1
-
The loss to Burud Town eliminated the Saints from playoff contention. All hope is not lost though. The Saints can still make the Majors Cup, but it will not be easy. The club will have to defeat the St. Louis Cure and hope everything else on the scoreboard plays out.

Streak Over - Final Two Games Make Or Break

GAME 18
MONARCHS 5 SAINTS 3
-
As expected the match against Montgomery County was competitive. Throughout the weekend both sides took jabs at one another. The difference in the game came down to the Saints inability to finish scoring chances. Watching the action on the pitch several Saints players had shots on goal and scoring chances but did not convert with the exception of Freddie Ljundberg. The loss ends the Saints 3 game winning streak and because the standings are so tight has actually dropped the club to 7th place. Its going to come down the the last 2 games of the season. One against Burud Town and one against the Cure. If the Saints came win these matches, the club will be in both the playoffs and Majors Cup. What more can you ask for when the season starts in the first place?

Match Build Up: Game 18

It was a frustrating week for Gateway United even though the club is playing very well. The Saints ownership agressively pursued Geovanni, only to see him go to Burud Town. "There is still one more game against Burud Town and a chance to lay some revenge. In the immediate future is a match against Montgomery County. Hopefully this will bump the Monarchs out." said the Saints owner.

Three in a Row!

GAME 17
SAINTS 2 SUNS 0
-
Guess who's in 3rd place? After so many ties and setbacks, Gateway United has put together a 3 game winning streak and moved up the standings. The most recent match was not pretty but it was gratifying to pull out a win missing so many players. Due to an oversight before the start of the match, it was a tip for the Cure owner of all people that allowed the Saints to make the correct line up. The result would have been the same as the games two scorers were already in the starting 8, but its an interesting tidbit either way.

Can you feel it? It's the buzz surrounding this part of St. Louis as the rightful owners of the City. Gateway United is roaring back to its dominate self. "It was just a matter of time really"said a local fan. The Saints last two matches, the club took down two playoff contenders. Now comes a third! Up next is Gold Coast F.C. that is sitting in 3rd place. For now!

Another Impressive Victory

GAME 16
SAINTS 5 GUNNERS 4
-
The points are starting to pile up. It was just a matter of time. The best clubs always get through the rough patches and find a win to start winning again. A game after destroying Union Southern California, the Saints sunk their teeth into the CD Gunners to earn a first time win in the match up. "The offense is coming around just at the right time and in this game we did it without any production from our Fire trio. This bolds well for us." said the clubs owner. The Saints are now in th top 4 for the Majors Cup and are in great position to make the playoffs. "If we keep winning we are in and nobody plays better in August than Gateway United. The records in that month over the past 2 years don't lie."

Match Build Up: Game 16

Is the 6th time the charm? Sooner or later the Saints will find a way to get 3 points against the Capital District Gunners. Looking back the results have not be horrible. The Gunners have simple found a way to grab the win or the tie.
-
REPORTER: What is the strategy for this game?
GATEWAY UTD: The club picked up Matt Reis and will start him in place of Coundoul for this game. Reis plays D.C. which has a hard time against him or anyone for that matter this season.
REPORTER: How big is this game?
GATEWAY UTD: A win this week would really send shockwaves to the league and the standings. It would give us 20 points on the season and really build up more momentum.
REPORTER: Donovan is out playing against Real Madrid. Bad timing?
GATEWAY UTD: It is part of the game and the Saints have to win with the players available and not depend on any one player. Even our current DP.

Finally! The Men in Green Cut Through Blues

Game 15
SAINTS 5 BLUES 1
-
It was bound to happen. Gateway United's bubble burst and dismantled Union Southern California. After so many ties and so may setbacks, the club came to form and got its 4th win of the season. Amazingly, with 17 points, the Saints still have a chance to reach the playoffs as well as the Majors Cup. With 5 regular season games remaining, the Saints trail 3rd place Gold Coast by 5 points in the BSL standings and trail the 4th place Union by only 2 points in Majors Cup qualifiers. "It is only one match, but we are stilling playing for something and that's all you can ever ask for" said the Saints owner.
