Match Build Up: Game 5

There is no rest for Gateway United. A game after playing the Cure, now comes the C.D. Gunners. It goes without saying that another 2 point scoring display will not cut it.

REPORTER: 4 points in 4 matches puts you in 6th place. Worried?
GATEWAY UNITED: Yes, to be honest. That is why we made all the moves we did this week.
REPORTER: You haven't had much success against the Gunners. Your thoughts?
GATEWAY UNITED: Who has? They only lost 3 times last year.
REPORTER: What are you looking for this week?
GATEWAY UNITED: Points! Points in the standings. Points on the scoreboard. Points points points.

Whatever it Takes

PRESS RELEASE
.
Desperate times call for desperate moves. Gateway United has just traded to get Steven Lenhart and Arturo Alvarez. Obviously this is a quick move to get some kind of positive results on the club side. Right now the club is sitting in 6th place but could easily rise to the top as it did last year with the right momentum.

Lack of Scoring Punch Costing the Saints

SAINTS 2 CURE 2

The Saints struggled through another game but at least in this result a point in the standings was managed. It is clear now that the problems that exist in this lineup are not going to go away. We are 4 games into the season and scoring 2 points on game day seems to be normal and not just an off night. What is to be done? That is the question the Gateway United front office will need to decide. Perhaps a trade is in order? Are there any free agents that can help? In the game against the Cure they gave us plenty of chances to win and it just didn't happen. Cunningham was given a gift of 2 penalty kicks and if only someone could have stepped up and given us a little more scoring punch this could have been a real celebration. This is the familiar topic of discussion. Where is the offense?

Stopping the disease from spreading?

PRESS RELEASE
On Thursday Gateway United will begin a huge match against inter-state rivals St. Louis Cure S.C. If you would have said at the beginning of the season that one of these clubs would be 3-0 and the other would be 1-2, who would have guessed the Cure would be the ones in the drivers seat. All is not roses in the Gateway. The offense is sick and the best remedy would be to kick the living beep out of the Cure. It will not be easy. Infact, the Saints are the underdogs. The Cure have destroyed their first 3 opponents. A loss to them would give the Cure a 9 point advantage in the standings. But, a win for the Saints would bring balance back to the universe. But how do you STOP THE CURE!!!!! First, break Buddle. He cannot be allowed to score. Second, and this is most important. Can someone score a freaking goal for the Saints!!! Scream it loud, scream it proud on gameday. STOP THE CURE! STOP THE CURE!! STOP THE CURE!!!

Saints In Seek Of Answers Fast

BLUES 6 SAINTS 2

Inexcusable! What our fans had to witness this weekend was just plan inexcusable. This is not how we play football at Gateway United. Game 3 of the season saw Union S.C. take a quick 3-0 lead and the Saints players responded with 2 points! That is all we could muster. This roster should have 2 points by Saturday morning. Everywhere we turned Union S.C. appeared to have scored on us this week. 6 points felt more like 100 points and if there was a mercy rule in place it would have been used. This is by far one of the most humbling moments in Gateway United history. Sure the Saints have lost games before, but not like this. We got creamed. What makes matters worse is our players like Romero and Galindo aren't even getting shots on goal. There will be a closed door meeting on Monday. We cannot allow this to happen next week when we go up against the St. Louis Cure in a Show-Me Cup match.

Match Build Up: Game 3

It was a short week for the men in green as they get ready to take on Union S.C. tonight. In a short interview this morning the following words were spoken.

REPORTER: You got the first win out of the way, how do you feel about the club so far.
GATEWAY UNITED: We want and feel we should be playing better. The club has yet to strike fear into the hearts of its BSL opponents and that is not how we operate here. Other clubs like "the disease" and "unknown town" have been grabbing up our headlines.
REPORTER: You play Union S.C. tonight. Any comments?
GATEWAY UNITED: The club over there has really been improved and should score more against us than they did last year but we can defeat anyone anywhere.
REPORTER: Landin's red card. Any comments?
GATEWAY UNITED: We picked him up to be a sub and then gave him a chance to play a full 90 and he failed to generate any offense and then got booted out of the game. His quality of play only seems to be getting worse, not better.

Wanted Dead Or Alive

PRESS RELEASE

The next opponent is Union S.C. Over here in the Gateway there is great joy that comes from putting a beat down on the boys in blue. Perhaps its their good clean cut image as the poster club of the BSL. Perhaps it was the playoff race from a year ago. It really doesn't matter. Defeating Union S.C. is tradition. This time will be no different. There are different faces on their side but the result will be the same. Gateway United is looking forward to continuing this rivalry.

The first win is always the hardest

SAINTS 4 GREEKS 1

Following a very frustrating opener, Gateway United did what was needed to get a positive result. The club is still not firing on all cylinders as several key players have yet to bring home a point. Landon Donovan was once again blanked as well as Romero, De Guzman and Galindo. The Greeks struck first with a Jaime Moreno goal. Gateway United equalized with a Jeff Cunningham goal off of a penalty kick. Then Freddy Ljundberg added an assist and the lead was 2-1. Marco Pappa and Coundoul added some insurance as the Greeks failed to score another point. It wasn't a dominating match but the result is beautiful. We needed the win and the momentum. We still have a lot of room for improvement. Also in the match was the clubs first red card. Luis Landin was ejected and thankfully had no baring on the results of the match.

Landin will be given more opportunities

PRESS RELEASE

Looks like Landin will have his opportunity to show what he's got to offer. Word is that with the absense of Brian Ching, Landin will be getting the minutes in his place. This news has gotten the attention of Gateway United.
"We are now looking at putting Landin as a starter given these new circumstances."
He will be going up against a very good Galaxy defense, but the match is at Robertson Stadium. The important thing is Luis should get his touches and have opportunities
